The Grattan Bar in Waterford is an absolute gem that exceeded our expectations in every way possible. What initially began as a pit stop for a restroom break and a quick pint of beer after a long drive, turned into an unforgettable dining experience thanks to the warm welcome we received from Melisa.From the moment we stepped foot into the bar, Melisa greeted us with genuine excitement and hospitality, making us feel like old friends rather than mere customers. His passion for his establishment was palpable, and it didn't take long for us to decide to stay for a meal and soak in the inviting atmosphere.And let's talk about the food - exceptional doesn't even begin to cover it. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and expertly prepared, making it some of the best we had throughout our entire time in Ireland. It was clear that Melisa and his wife Martha poured their hearts into every aspect of their bar, ensuring that each customer feels welcomed and right at home.But perhaps the most memorable part of our visit was the impromptu sing-along at the end of our meal, complete with lollipops as a reward for completing our dishes. It was a hilarious and heartwarming moment that had us both in stitches, and while we're sad we couldn't capture it on camera, it's a memory we'll cherish forever.In conclusion, the Grattan Bar is an absolute must-visit in Waterford. Had dinner on a Monday night. Lovely Irish meal. Friendly staff, made us feel very welcome. There's not many people in the pub at that time. Had their special, lamb chop with 2 types of potatoes and lovely gravy. Kids ordered fish and chips, curry rice. Wife ordered stew. The chips, they are to die for. Soft on the inside, crispy outside. I asked the friendly lady staff, she can only divulge that they use marris piper potatoes, didn't tell us how they make it so nice.

The place is just wonderful. We went because they have Irish Stew in the menu. Right away we felt we as if we were family. The atmosphere was family friendly and the staff were amazing. Great hospitality. The Stew is the best I have had since being in country (sampled five others from Waterford to Sligo, to Cork and Londonderry) and I plan to visit again tomorrow!

We loved our time at Grattan Bar! We walked the distance from our hotel because of the great reviews on food and service. Let me tell you, they’re right! Our server was so kind and attentive- making sure that dietary requests were understood and met. The atmosphere was perfect and the lager was spot on. The fish and chips were delicious. High recommendation from this visitor!!

Put off by the lack of atmosphere in the hotel restaurants we stepped into this pub and were welcomed by the bar man. Once in you're so welcomed that theres no leaving. The landlady and landlord treat you as if you're one of the locals. Food was nice and a lot of it. We shared nachos and had a sticky toffee pudding each for dessert. Would 100% go back - why wouldn't you go back when it's so friendly - and would recommend it to everyone.

Superb! Highly recommend. Stepped off train and gentleman drew us in with his Irish brogue extolling the excellent food. Went in and he was the father and son behind the bar. Friendly atmosphere, perfect decor and delicious food made for an excellent Irish pub stop.

Great place to eat, wonderful atmosphere! We had just arrived at Waterford and while walking through the bridge to go to our hotel this sweet guy welcomed us to the city and invited us to visit his pub. We returned at night to have dinner and everything was perfect. Such a lovely place, I recommend to everybody

Can’t recommend this place enough! We came in after arriving on a rainy evening in Waterford and we left very impressed. The food and service were both incredible, and Martha made us feel right at home. Fantastic bar and restaurant!
